Correcting misalignment can help you enjoy a healthier smile, as well as a more even and attractive smile. Instead of relying solely on metal braces, we can offer a more esthetically pleasing and comfortable alternative with Invisalign® aligners. What should you expect wearing the aligners day-to-day?

Wearing Day-to-Day

We will provide you with a set of clear, comfortable plastic aligners. Each day, you will need to wear them for between 20 and 22 hours, depending on your dentist’s recommendations. About once every two weeks, you will upgrade to the next set. In order to obtain the results discussed in the timeframe quoted, you need to make sure you’re wearing them properly. However, there are a few times in which you can remove them.

When can I Remove Them?

You can take them out before you eat, which means you don’t need to avoid certain foods as you would with traditional metal orthodontics. You can also remove them prior to brushing and flossing your teeth, which helps make caring for your smile during treatment much easier. Finally, you can take them out for special occasions, such as a graduation or an anniversary dinner. However, be sure that the times you remove them aren’t cutting into the amount of time you’re supposed to wear them.

How Long Does Treatment Last?

That depends on the cause and extent o your misalignment. On average, adults may need to wear them for about a year. Teen patients may require up to 18 months. Whether you wear them properly can also impact the amount of time treatment will require. If you have any questions about the Invisalign process, or if you’re ready to address your misalignment, then please give our office a call.
