Have you ever seen commercials for Invisalign®, or maybe know a friend that wore them? You may have questions about them, especially if you have an uneven smile. In today’s blog, were answering common questions about clear aligners and discussing why they may be a great choice for our Liberty, MO, patients.

Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign®

Question: How do clear aligners work?

Answer: When worn, the aligners gently reposition the teeth, moving them gradually to more optimal positions. Approximately every two weeks, patients move on to the next set of aligners. Each set is custom-made specifically for the patient, ensuring a comfortable fit throughout the treatment process.

Question: Do I wear them all the time?

Answer: In order to see optimal results in the original timeframe discussed with the dentist, patients need to wear them for between 20 and 23 hours every day. Not wearing them as prescribed means the teeth won’t be repositioned on schedule.

Question: Can I ever take them out?

Answer: Yes! As long as you wear them for the minimum amount of time, you can remove them before each meal. Which means you don’t have to change your diet or avoid favorite foods, as many must do when they wear metal braces. You also have a much easier time properly brushing and flossing your teeth, helping your smile stay healthy and bright throughout treatment. You may also remove them for special occasions, such as a graduation or special dinner.

Question: How long does treatment take?

Answer: That depends on a number of factors, including the severity of misalignment. On average, adults see optimal results in about a year. Teens may require up to 18 months, as their mouths are still growing and changing.
